Trump to Participate “Indirectly” in US, Iran Nuclear Talks

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump announced that he plans to take part “indirectly” in the forthcoming nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran, scheduled to occur in Geneva on Tuesday.

Speaking to journalists on Monday while traveling to Washington, D.C., Trump addressed questions regarding his expectations for the second phase of the indirect nuclear discussions.

"I'll be involved in those talks indirectly, and they'll be very important," he stated. He further remarked, "We'll see what can happen."

According to the established timetable, the negotiations are expected to commence Tuesday morning under mediation by Oman. The session will take place at the Omani Embassy in the Swiss metropolis.

Trump characterized Iran as “a very tough” counterpart at the bargaining table. However, he argued that Tehran has not negotiated effectively in the past.

"But I would say they are bad negotiators, as we could have had a deal instead of sending out B-2s to knock out their nuclear potential. We had to send the B-2s. I hope they are going to be more reasonable," he said, referencing the deployment of Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit stealth bombers used in strikes on Iranian nuclear installations during heightened tensions in the Iran–Israel conflict in June 2025.

The president reaffirmed his belief that Iran is seeking an agreement. "I don't think they want the consequences of not making a deal. They want to make a deal," he asserted.
